E. Hall Kempson (Red), passed to the Lodge on High September 10, 2015. He was born July 14, 1921 in Roselle Park, New Jersey, son of Eber Hall (Sr.) and Maude (Harris) Kempson. He was a veteran of WWII, volunteering for service after Pearl Harbor and serving in the US Army Air Corps in the North African Campaign for the duration of the war. He attended schools in Linden NJ, and Middletown Township, NJ. Mr. Kempson was employed by the Philadelphia Evening Bulletin (now closed) for 17 years, retiring in 1980 as composing room foreman. Previously he worked for the Perth Amboy Evening News, and other newspapers in New Jersey. He was a member of Monmouth Lodge No. 172 F. &A.M. Atlantic Highlands, NJ, for 57 years.
Survivors: daughter Susan Kempson Castor (Kenneth), loving sister Mrs. Miriam Newman Brick NJ, nieces Jil von Ohlen, Brick NJ, Pat Newman, Lakewood, NJ, and Marion Frey, Sea Girt NJ, nephew Glenn Robinson, Lagro, Indiana. Also, his dear companion, Ms. Katie Warner, Indianapolis, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mathilda G. Kempson (Scholz), brother, Walter Kempson, New Jersey, and companion Sylvia M Nachbar, Philadelphia.
While in New Jersey, Red was active in local Republican politics (an old fashioned conservative, without the trappings of fundamentalism, and elitism of the modern day GOP.) A long time baseball fan, he established and managed the first Little League Team in Middletown Twp. NJ., and was a founding member of the Old Village Volunteer Fire Department in Middletown, NJ.
In 1992 Red moved to Broad Ripple Indianapolis to be closer to his daughter, and became one of the village’s colorful characters. He joined the American Legion, and continued his cryptic opinions of international and local news and politics. Reds strong work ethic combined with mischievous humor allowed him to enjoy a wide variety of acquaintances. His life long interests included history, Christmas stamps, politics, genealogy, whiskey, and baseball.
Red wished to convey his thanks to many for allowing him to remain healthy and active; the VA GRACE team, the VA Home-based Primary Care Team, CICOA care manager SW Ms. Susan Wertwein, caregivers Ms. Chrissy Barber, Ms. Marsha Lanza, Mrs. Heather Bauer Bledsoe, and Mrs. Jennifer Costin, and Seasons Hospice in his final few weeks. Also a group of “old vets” and local business owners in Broad Ripple who always treated him with kindness, and good humor. You know who you are.
A celebration of enjoyment of life will be held at a later date at one of Reds favorite taverns per his request.
